Brand Botswana engages Batswana in the Diaspora

As part of the recently launched Active Global Citizens campaign, Brand Botswana hosted an AGC engagement session for Batswana living the United Arab Emirates on 11th April 2019. This is part of the ongoing campaign to engage with Batswana in the Diaspora to implore them to play a more active role in promoting Botswana globally. This session introduced BITC and Brand Botswana to Batswana, and was a clarion call on the Batswana in the diaspora to be an extension of BITC and Brand Botswana where they are based.

Manager – Brand Botswana. International Mr. Thuso Palai introduced Brand Botswana, the Active Global Citizens campaign and how Batswana in the diaspora can collaborate with Brand Botswana to activate promotional initiatives in their jurisdictions. Director. Investment Promotions Mr. Omphitlhetse Senosi made a presentation on investment opportunities and incentives in Botswana, as well as how BITC assists those who want to invest in Botswana.

Speaking at the session, one of the participants Mr. Bino Rasedisa hailed the engagement as a step in the right direction, if Brand Botswana is to get closer to Batswana in the diaspora, who in turn can be an extension of the nation brand where they are based.

The other attendees raised some issues which were a concern to them, and work against the Nation Brand and the efforts to attract tourists and investment into Botswana. These included concerns about poor work ethic in Botswana, concerns about immigration issues as well as red tape around setting up a business in Botswana, which negatively affects ease of doing business in Botswana.

Some of the Batswana based in the UAE work in the Banking, Aviation, Advertising and Technology sectors.
