Botswana consistently ranks highly and positively in most recognised international rankings. It ranks among the best governed, most transparent, most peaceful and least corrupt countries in Africa. The Government of Botswana strives to provide a favourable, conducive environment for business. Botswana boasts among the lowest corporate tax rate in the region (15% for manufacturing /financial services and 22% for all other activities) and maximum personal income tax rate of 25%. There are no foreign exchange controls. In the past decade, Botswana has consistently ranked high in the Standard Poor’s and Moody’s ranking, giving Botswana the highest sovereign credit ratings in Africa, and among the highest in the world.

Businesses that set up in Botswana have access to international markets through several bilateral and multilateral agreements that Botswana has with other countries. Botswana is at the centre of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), with market access to over 292 million people in 15 countries with combined GDP of more than US$700 billion. The Africa Growth and Opportunities Act – AGOA offers Botswana access to the USA market, while the EU-SADC EPA agreement provides duty free, quota free market access for products coming in from Botswana. Therefore, Botswana has unlimited access to send products to 28 European Union countries. The market access opportunities make it attractive for investors to set base in Botswana, and target the regional and international markets, taking advantage of the preferential access rates.

Botswana’s policy is oriented towards sustainable growth and diversification through coordinated efforts and contributions from various sectors of the economy, including: Manufacturing, Agribusiness, Automotive and component manufacturing, Cargo and Logistics, Health, Financial and Business Services, Mineral beneficiation, Energy and Information and Communication technology -ICT.
