Botswana bags Gold at Gold Coast Games

Botswana recorded her first medals at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, with Isaac Makwala and Baboloki Thebe winning Gold and Silver medals in the 400 metres final, and Amantle Montsho also winning Gold in the 400metres women’s race.

Makwala, who is at his peak, finally won a global individual event, after coming near on a couple of times. Makwala, who shot to fame after his solo run at the London World Championships, ran a perfect 44.35 seconds race to win first major games medals was followed by youngster Thebe who came in 2nd in a time of 45.09 seconds.

Botswana increased her medals following Montsho’s Gold medal exploits. Montsho is on a comeback trail following a 2 year lay-off from the sport. Christine Botlogetswe finished 4th in the same race.

Botswana is also hopeful of more medals in the 800 metres where Nijel Amos has qualified for the Finals, as well as the 4 by 400metres men’s relay team.
